Nearly 10 years old, the project is always finding new ways to educate about basic concepts. One of the most challenging topics to confront is unity in a country like Kenya with more than 40 languages emanating from many tribes. Father Raymond doesn't back away from this one either. Tribal origins and migration are explained in detail.
The idea for the project originated when a women's group voiced the need for a different approach to Bible study. Another factor was the 1994 Ecumenical council and Pope John Paul II's paper stressing that there is an openness to transcendancy in any culture.
"The missionary period is over in Africa," Father Raymond says. "It's time to live your beliefs. You can't separate culture from spirituality," he emphasizes. "Roman Catholics were both Roman and Catholic, Africans are the same." That assimilating and integrating Biblical teachings must be done within one's culture is a constant.
